NewEnglishCurriculumforChinesePrimarySchools andJunior/SeniorMiddleSchools ExperimentalVersiondraftedbytheEducationMinistryofthePRC Noteonthistranslation ThisEnglishversionofChina’snewcurriculumforEnglishisintendedforVSOvolunteerswho wouldliketofeelbetterinformedaboutadocumentthatiscentraltoourwork.However,it shouldinnowayberegardedasanofficialtranslation.Infact,itisneitherawordforword translationnorasummary.Theappendixtotheoriginal,whichincludeslistsofspecificlanguage itemstobemastered,hasbeenomitted,ashavesomeleveldescriptorsandsamplelearning activities.Despitetryingtomakeitmorereadable,thisversionreflectstherepetitivenatureof theoriginal,withthesamekeywordscroppingupoverandoveragain.Volunteersshouldalso refertothemoreofficial(butstillnotcompletelyofficial!)translationofthenewEnglish curriculumspecificallyforseniormiddleschoolsavailablefromtheProgrammeOffice.Any feedbackonthisversionwouldbewelcome. SinceChina’sreformandopening,thescaleofitsEnglisheducationhascontinuallygrown, attendedbysignificantachievementsinteachingandlearning.However,Englisheducationinits currentformisfailingtomeettheneedsofcontemporarysocialandeconomicdevelopment.
