西南大学艺体生大学英语课堂沉默现象研究的开题报 告 Research Proposal: AStudy of Classroom Silence Phenomenon in English Classes for Art and Physical Education Students at Southwest University Introduction: In recent years, the issue of classroom silence has become a common phenomenon, especially in English classes for art and physical education students at Southwest University. Silence can be defined as the absence of communication, and in the classroom, it can be caused by various factors such as anxiety, lack of confidence, language ability, cultural differences, and teacher’s teaching style. Despite the importance of speaking skills for language learning, silence in the classroom can have negative impacts on the quality of education, as it limits the interaction between teachers and students, delays the learning process, and lowers students’ motivation. Objective: The main aim of this study is to investigate the reasons for classroom silence among art and physical education students in English classes at Southwest University. This research aims to: 1. Identify the main causes of classroom silence in English classes for art and physical education students at Southwest University 2. Analyze the effect of silence on the quality of education and the learning process. 3. Identify strategies that can be used to reduce classroom silence in English classes for art and physical education students at Southwest University. Methodology: The study will use amixed-methods approach. The qualitative data will be collected through focus group discussions and semi-structured interviews with apurposive sample of students and teachers. The quantitative data will be collected through asurvey questionnaire that will be completed by students from the School of Art and Physical Education at Southwest University who are studying English.
