StudyonDisinfectionandAntimicrobialTechnologiesfor – DrinkingWater ZHUKun,FUXiaoYong (Dept.ofEnvironmentalEngineering,LANZhouRailwayUniversity,LANZhou, China) Abstract:Disinfectionby-productsproducedbythereactionbetweenchlorine anddissolvedorganiccompoundsandotherchemicalsareconsideredasaworrying probleminthedrinkingwatertreatmentprocesssinceaseriesofmutagenic carcinogensubstancesareformedincludingtrihalomethanes(THMs).Amongthe testeddisinfectants(chlorine,ozone,chlorinedioxide,potassiumpermanganate, chloraminesandhydrogenperoxideetc.),chlorinedioxidehasprovedtobethemost feasibleandeffectiveoxidantfordrinkingwatertreatmentandremovalofpathogens duetoitsoxidationefficiency,lowcostandsimplewayofutilization.Aseriesof experimentsindicatethatchlorinedioxidecansignificantlyrestrainproductionof trihalomethanes(THMs)andcontrolbacteriagrowthparticularlyforCryptosporidium oocysts.Theexperimentsverifiedthatbothozoneandchlorinedioxideareabsolutely vitaltoensurethtionofwaterstoragearedestroyed.Thepaperdiscussesoxidation capacityofchlorinedioxide,especiallyforremovingpetroleumcompounds,whichis affectedbyreactiontime,gasinjectionway,andpHoftreatedwater.
