Thesechallengesinsentencestructureoccurbecausestudents maynothavefullycomprehendedtheEnglishgrammarrules,thus resultinginimpropersentencestructures.Thisresearchaimsto analyzethecognitivefactorsthatcontributetoChinesestudents' errorsinsentencestructureswhenwritinginEnglish. LiteratureReview Previousstudieshaveinvestigatedthefactorsthatleadto Chinesestudents'poorwritingabilityandattributedittotheir mothertongue'sinfluence.AlthoughtheChineselanguage's sentencestructurehasdifferentrulesfromEnglish,thisdifference shouldnotpreventChinesestudentsfromachievinghighwriting proficiencyinEnglish.AstudybyZhangandLiang(2019)showed thatChinesestudents'errorsinEnglishwritingwerebecauseof neglectingEnglishgrammarrules,whichhasresultedinawkward sentencestructures.Thestudysuggestedthateducatingstudents ontheimportanceofEnglishgrammarcouldhelpimprovetheir writingskills. Methodology Thisresearchemployedaqualitativeapproachwherea questionnairewasdistributedto50Chinesestudentswhoare studyingEnglishasasecondlanguageinauniversity.The questionnaireincludedopen-endedquestionswherestudents wereaskedabouttheirperceivedchallengesinwritingEnglish compositions.Thecollecteddatawereanalyzedusingthematic analysistoidentifythedifferentcognitivefactorscontributingto students'Englishsentencestructureerrors. Results Theanalysisofthedatarevealedthefollowingcognitive factorswhichcontributetoChinesestudents'errorsinEnglish sentencestructures:
