However,thisprocesscanleadtohighbloodsugarlevels,whichis particularlyharmfulforpeoplewithdiabetes.Inhibitionof α-Glucosidaseactivityhasemergedasapromisingstrategyfor thetreatmentofdiabetes.Naturalproductshavebeenextensively investigatedfortheirpotentialasα-Glucosidaseinhibitors,dueto theirlowtoxicityanddiversechemicalstructures.Thisreview summarizestherecentadvancesinthediscoveryofα-Glucosidase inhibitorsfromnaturalsources,includingplants,microbes,and marineorganisms. Plant-derivedinhibitors Numerousplant-basedcompoundshavebeenreportedto exhibitα-Glucosidaseinhibitoryactivity.Someofthemost well-studiedcompoundsincludepolyphenols,flavonoids,and alkaloids.Resveratrol,apolyphenolfoundingrapesandberries, hasbeenshowntoinhibitα-Glucosidaseactivityinvitroandin vivo(1).Quercetin,aflavonolfoundinmanyfruitsandvegetables, hasalsobeenreportedasanα-Glucosidaseinhibitor(2).
