Thenewspoonwouldhaveseveralbumps(凸起)onitsundersidetopress againstthetongue.Thebumpscanbecoveredwithapermanentlayerofmolecules (分子)calledligands.Theseligandsbondwithtaste-cellreceptorproteinsthat typicallyreacttosugarmoleculesorartificialsweeteners.Thebondcan activatenervesignals,causingthebraintoregisterasenseofsweetness.A dinercouldthusstimulatesweetnessreceptorswithoutactualintakeofsugaror artificialsweeteners.
