PlanningtheLesson Beforeimplementinganexperientiallearningapproach,Ihadtoplanthelesson carefully.IstartedbyexaminingthecontentoftheUnit6"HappyBirthday"lesson andidentifyingthelearningobjectivesthatIwishedtoachieve.Ithenbrainstormeda rangeofactivitiesthatwouldengageandstimulatemystudents'learningand tailoredmylessontomeettheirneeds. Thelessoninvolvedaseriesofgamingactivities,suchascrosswordpuzzles,a birthdaypartysimulation,matchedpairsgame,picturedictation,bingogame,and quizzes.Theactivitieswerenotonlyengagingbutalsoincorporatedvariousskillsof reading,writing,speaking,andlistening.Toensurethattheactivitieswere experiential,Ifocusedonmakingthemhands-on,interactive,andenjoyable. ImplementationofExperientialLearningintheClassroom Duringthelesson,Iencouragedmystudentstoactivelyparticipateineveryactivity.I gavethemtimetothinkandreflectonthequestionsbeforetheyanswered.Ialso allowedthemtoaskquestions,discusstheiranswerswithpeers,andevento challengemyanswers.Thisway,theytookownershipoftheirlearningandbecame moreinquisitiveandcurious.Theyweremorewillingtosharetheirthoughtsand opinions,eveniftheymademistakes.Icreatedanon-threateninglearning environment,wherestudentstookrisksandlearnedfromtheirerrors. Istartedthelessonbyusingacrosswordpuzzletointroducethestudentstonew vocabularyandconceptsrelatedtothebirthdaypartytheme.Thestudentsworkedin groupsandhadtolocatethewords,askforhelpifrequired,andlearnthemeaning ofthewords.Itwasanexcellenticebreakeractivityasitallowedthestudentstowork collaborativelywhilelearning. Next,wehadabirthdaypartysimulation,wherethestudentsweredividedinto groupsandhadtoplanandorganizeabirthdayparty.Theyhadtomakedecisions, suchasselectingthevenue,preparingamenu,invitingguests,decoratingtheparty venue,andevenpreparingabirthdaycake.Weheldagroupdiscussionand debriefedontheimportantaspectsoforganizinganevent,suchasproper communication,delegatingtasks,andteamwork. Afterthesimulation,weplayedthematchedpairsgamewherethestudentsmatched asetofwordsandpicturesrelatedtothebirthdayparty.Thisactivityemphasizedthe importanceoflisteningandunderstandingofvocabulary,lighteningthemoodand creatingafunatmosphere. Thepicturedictationandbingoactivitieswerefocusedonlearningthroughlistening andandprovedtobeeffectivemethodstoimprovestudents'listeningskills.
