Attheageofsixteen,Iwentonmyfirstvolunteer projectinWestVirginia.Onthenightwearrived,we discoveredthat"ourfamily"waslivinginatrailerthat wasinpoorcondition,nobiggerthantwoparkingspaces.A crewhadbeenworkingonitfortwoweeks,buteverytime theyfinishedoneproblem,anothersurfaced. Thestaffsoondecidedthattheonlyreasonable solutionwastobuildanewhouse-somethinghighlyunusual butnecessaryunderthesecircumstances.Normallythegoal istorepairexistinghomes."Ourfamily"wasoverjoyed withtheirnewhousethatwas20x30footwiththree bedrooms,abathandakitchen/familyroom. OnTuesdayofthatweek,whileweallatelunch together,Iasked“ourfamily’s”threeboys,Josh,Eric andRyan,"Whatdoyouwantforyournewroom?" Anticipatingposters,toysandothergadgetsthatchildren usuallyaskfor,weweresurprisedwhenJosh,theoldest, responded,"Ijustwantabed." Wewerestunned.Theboyshadneversleptinabed.
