Thesezoneswerefoundtobeassociatedwithdifferenttypesof tectonicstress,includingcompressionandextension.Ourresults shedlightonthedeepertectonicprocessesdrivingthe deformationandseismicactivityintheXichangregion. Introduction TheXichangareaislocatedinthewesternpartofChina, whereitischaracterizedbycomplextectonicenvironmentsanda highlevelofseismicactivity.Understandingthetectonicstress fieldinthisregioniscrucialforpredictingandmitigatingthe impactofearthquakesonlocalpopulationsandinfrastructure.In thisstudy,weanalyzedthehorizontaldifferencesinblock movementinordertogaininsightsintothetectonicstressfieldin theXichangarea. Methods Weanalyzedgeodeticdata,includingGPSmeasurements, andsatelliteimagerytoidentifythelocationoffaultsand deformationzonesintheXichangarea.Wethencalculatedthe horizontaldifferencesinblockmovementacrossthesezonesto identifyareasofcompressionandextension. Results Ouranalysisrevealedseveralactivefaultsanddeformation zonesintheXichangarea,including: 1.TheXiajiadian-LixingsegmentoftheXianshuiheFaultZone, whichisassociatedwithright-lateralstrike-slipmotionand distributeddeformation.
