Telomeraseisaribonucleoproteincomplexresponsiblefor themaintenanceoftelomeres,theprotectivecapsattheendof linearchromosomes.Itsactivityisgenerallylowinsomaticcells, leadingtoprogressivetelomereshorteningandeventuallycell deathorsenescence.Recentstudieshavesuggestedalink betweentelomeraseactivityandpost-harvestqualityof vegetables,includingbroccoli. Inthisreview,wesummarizethecurrentunderstandingof telomerasebiologyandfunctioninplants,withafocuson broccoli.Wealsodiscussvarioustechniquesformeasuring telomeraseactivityandtheirapplicationinthestudyofbroccoli physiologyandqualitycontrol.Finally,wehighlightthepotential ofmanipulatingtelomeremaintenancepathwaysforimproving post-harvestqualityandextendingshelflifeofbroccoli. However,thepost-harvestqualityandshelflifeofbroccoliare limitedbyseveralfactors,includingphysicaldamage,microbial growth,andsenescence.Senescenceisacomplexprocess involvingvariousbiochemicalandphysiologicalchangesthatlead tothedeclineinqualityandnutritionalvalueoftheharvested produce.Oneofthehallmarksofsenescenceistelomere shortening,whichactivatescellcyclecheckpointsandtriggers
