Background Thenegativebinomialdistributionisaprobabilitydistribution thatiscommonlyusedtomodelcountdata.Itisatwo-parameter probabilitydistributionthathasameanandadispersion parameter.Inthecontextofregressionanalysis,thenegative binomialregressionmodelisageneralizedlinearmodel(GLM) thatisusedtomodelcountdatawithcovariates.Themodel assumesthatthelogoftheexpectedcountisalinearcombination ofthecovariates,andthattheresponsevariablefollowsa negativebinomialdistribution.
