Thestudyshowsthatonlyarelativelysmallshareofinvestmentgoes towardsimprovingandextendingtheelectricityinfrastructurewhichisa preconditionfortransmittingcleanwindenergytotheendusers.Inaddition, thebackupsystemsareeithergeographicallytooremotefromthepotential windpowersitesorcurrentlyfinanciallyinfeasible.Finally,theintroduction ofwindpowertothecoal-dominatedenergyproductionsystemisnot problem-free.Frequentrampupsanddownsofcoal-firedplantsleadto lowerenergyefficiencyandhigheremissions,whicharelikelytonegate someoftheemissionsavingsfromwindpower.
