Duringthisperiod,theBritishcolonialgovernmentimplemented variousmeasurestogoverntheruralareasofWeihai.However, thesemeasureswerenotalwayssuccessful,andthereweremany challenges,suchasconflictswithlocalofficialsandresistancefrom thelocalpopulation. ResearchObjectives: Thisstudyaimstoanalyzetheruralgovernancemodelin WeihaiunderBritishleaseandevaluateitseffectivenessin promotinglocaldevelopmentandimprovingpeople'swell-being. Specifically,thestudywillfocusonthefollowingresearch questions: 1.WhatwerethekeyfeaturesoftheBritishruralgovernance modelinWeihai,andhowdiditdifferfromtraditionalChinese governancesystems? 2.WhatwerethechallengesfacedbytheBritishcolonial governmentinimplementingtheruralgovernancemodelin Weihai,andwhatstrategiesdidtheyusetoovercomethese challenges? 3.WhatweretheimpactsoftheBritishruralgovernance modelonthelocaleconomy,society,andenvironmentinWeihai, andwhatlessonscanbelearnedfromthisexperience? Methodology: Thisstudywilluseamixed-methodsapproach,including literaturereview,archivalresearch,andfieldwork.Theliterature reviewwillbeconductedtogainacomprehensiveunderstanding oftheBritishcolonialgovernancesysteminWeihaiandthe historicalcontextoftheleaseperiod.Archivalresearchwillbe carriedouttocollectdatafromgovernmentandotherofficial documentsrelatedtoruralgovernanceinWeihaiduringthe Britishleaseperiod.Fieldworkwillbeconductedtoconduct
