Introduction: N,N'-dimethylthiourea(DMTU)isasulfur-containing compoundwiththechemicalformula(CH3)2NCS(NH2)CH3.Itisa whitecrystallinesolidthatissolubleinpolarsolvents.DMTUhas beenextensivelyusedasachelatingagent,vulcanization accelerator,corrosioninhibitor,andintermediateinthesynthesis ofpharmaceuticals,dyes,andpesticides.Thecurrentmethodsof synthesizingDMTUinvolvethereactionofN,N-dimethylureawith elementalsulfurorcarbondisulfide(CS2),followedbythe additionofasulfuratingagent.However,thesemethodssuffer fromlowyields,sidereactions,andpoorselectivity,which necessitatesimprovements.
