海南长臂猿栖息地恢复造林效果研究 Introduction Hainan Island, located in the southernmost part of China, is the only tropical island province in the country. It is home to many unique species, including the Hainan Gibbon, also known as the Hainan black-crested gibbon. This species is endemic to Hainan Island and is one of the world’s rarest primates, with only about 30 individuals remaining in the wild. The gibbon's habitat has been declining due to deforestation, illegal hunting, and other destructive activities. However, in recent years, there have been efforts to restore its habitat through reforestation. This paper will explore the effectiveness of reforestation efforts in restoring the Hainan Gibbon's habitat and the implications for its conservation. Background The Hainan Gibbon is acritically endangered species that is endemic to Hainan Island. It is asmall, black-furred arboreal primate that lives in groups of two to five individuals. The gibbon's habitat is restricted to the southeastern part of the island, mainly in the Bawangling National Nature Reserve and Jianfengling National Nature Reserve. The total population of the Hainan Gibbon was estimated to be less than 30 individuals in 2014, making it one of the rarest primates in the world. The habitat of the Hainan Gibbon has been declining due to deforestation, illegal hunting, and other destructive activities. Deforestation on the island has been widespread, with forest cover decreasing from 57% to 42% between 1955 and 2002. This decline in forest cover has been mainly due to commercial logging, agricultural activities, and population growth. Moreover, the illegal hunting of gibbons for their meat and for medicinal purposes has also contributed to their decline. To mitigate the impact on the gibbons' habitat, conservation organizations and the Chinese government have implemented several measures to protect the species, including establishing protected areas, cracking down on illegal hunting, and restoring degraded habitat through reforestation. Efforts to restore the Hainan Gibbon's habitat One significant approach to restoring the gibbon's habitat has been
